WHAT WE'RE ABOUT
THE DREAM THE VISION THE REALITY
At the heart of this work is a focus on British wetlands—some of the country’s most valuable and overlooked natural systems. These landscapes do far more than meet the eye. They lock away carbon in peat-rich soils, help manage flooding by absorbing heavy rainfall, and naturally filter water before it returns to rivers and seas.
Despite covering only a small portion of the land, wetlands are among the most biodiverse environments in the UK. They provide essential habitats for species under pressure and serve as critical stopover points for migratory birds.
This isn’t about grand gestures—it’s about long-term stewardship. By protecting and restoring these ecosystems, Cresswell Forestry Management aims to leave the land healthier, more resilient, and better able to support life in all its forms.
Cresswell Forestry Management is a not-for-profit initiative founded by Rick and Sharon Cresswell. Their approach is simple and direct: use personal funds to acquire and protect woodland and wetland habitats in Britain, helping restore native broadleaf forests and support the wildlife that depends on them.
WHY BRITISH WETLANDS MATTER
Climate resilience – Peatlands and saltmarshes store significant amounts of carbon, helping slow the pace of climate change.
Flood protection – Wetlands act as natural buffers, reducing the impact of storms and heavy rainfall on nearby communities.
Biodiversity – They support a wide range of species, from water voles and bitterns to dragonflies and migratory birds.
Cleaner water – Wetlands filter pollutants and improve water quality across surrounding landscapes.
Human wellbeing – These “blue spaces” offer accessible, restorative environments that support mental health and connection to nature.
